Cesium Help

Cesium is a WebGL virtual globe. It uses your browser's native drivers to display globes and maps. You do not have to download any plug-ins or extensions to use Cesium in your browser. If the Cesium globe is not showing up in your browser or if you are seeing errors, you should check that your operating system and browser support WebGL and that WebGL is enabled.

OS and Browser Support

The first things you should do are make sure that your computer's operating system and internet browser support WebGL. Below are instructions on how to check both and make sure you can run WebGL and Cesium.

Supported Operating Systems

  • Windows 7 (or later)
  • Mac OS X 10.6 (or later)
  • Linux
  • Chrome OS

Supported Browsers

Enable WebGL in your Browser

After you have confirmed that your operating system and browser support WebGL, check to see if your browser has WebGL enabled, please visit https://get.webgl.org. If you see a spinning cube, WebGL is already enabled in your browser. If you do not see the cube, see the instructions below on how to enable it in your browser.

Safari

  • Open the Safari menu and select Preferences.
  • Then, click the Advanced tab in the Preferences window.
  • Then, at the bottom of the window, check the Show Develop menu in menu bar checkbox.
  • Then, open the Develop menu in the menu bar and select Enable WebGL.

In the System section, ensure the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox is checked (you'll need to relaunch Chrome for any changes to take effect) Then enable WebGL:
  • Go to chrome://flags
  • Ensure that Disable WebGL is not activated (you'll need to relaunch Chrome for any changes to take effect)

  • To enable Layers Acceleration, set layers.acceleration.force-enabled to true
  • To enable Direct2D in Windows Vista/7, set gfx.direct2d.force-enabled to true
